Sunday was the Annual Soledad Wind & Wine Festival. Red, white and blue kites swirled through the air to entertain the 5,000 strong crowd as the Bay Area Sundowners performed a breathtaking air ballet.

Those wanting to fly above the kites took helicopter rides across the city. The Showcopters later performed incredible stunts for the crowd, who were also treated to a demonstration of a fireman's training event, where a barrel is pushed along a wire, tug of war style, using streams of water. The women challenged the male firefighters to the competition and beat them on their first try.

The wine tent was a favorite destination, with nine local wineries pouring award winning wines in a fun, festive and relaxed atmosphere. Escafeld poured alongside Hahn/Smith & Hook (wonderful people), Paraiso, Estancia, Kendal-Jackson, Scheid & Chalone. Thanks to all who stopped in to see us; it was a fun event and we'll see you all again next year!

Come along to the annual Wind & Wine Festival in Soledad on Sunday August 28th.

Sponsored by The Oldtown Soledad Beautification Association (OSBA), the Wind & Wine festival is a great family oriented event, packed with fun activities.

Admission is free. There'll be kite demonstrations by the Bay Area Sundowners, and a kids area with free kite making; helicopter airshows performed by The Showcopters; helicopter rides available for $30; and wine tasting of local award winning wines for $20 per ticket.

Yesterday was the 13th Annual Winemakers' Celebration. The festival was held at Monterey's historic Custom House Plaza. Over 40 Monterey County wineries were there, pouring for a thronging crowd.

We had so much fun that we were sorry the event lasted only four hours. Thanks to everyone who stopped by the Escafeld tent to taste and chat. We had a wonderful time meeting you, and appreciated all the great compliments and stories about our wines.

Thanks also to all the volunteers whose professionalism kept things running so smoothly.

Our next tasting event will be the Wind & Wine festival, Aug 28th 11:00am-4:00pm in downtown Soledad. We look forward to seeing you there!

The results of the Indy International Wine Competition were announced today.

The largest wine competition outside California, and the third largest in the US, the Indy International brought in over 3,600 wines from all over the world, which were reviewed by 80 judges over a three day period.

We're thrilled to announce that Escafeld Vineyards won Bronze for our 2002 Zinfandel , and Bronze for our 2002 Merlot!
