Dear Steve,
Actually, Ohio does allow direct shipment under certain circumstances. A
resident of the state of Ohio may, with consent of the Ohio
Division of Liquor Control, bring or ship into the state, alcohol
purchased in another country or state, provided that:
1. The alcohol is for Ohio resident's personal use and not for resale
2. The laws of the US allow the shipment of the alcohol into the US
3. All taxes due the state of Ohio must be paid at the time that the
consent is requested
4. The product is not available to purchase in Ohio
5. The amount to be shipped in may not exceed fifteen gallons per family
household in any three month period.
There is no charge, other than taxes due, for this consent.
The "Personal Consent to Import" application can be downloaded from our
website: www.liquorcontrol.ohio.gov by clicking on the "Direct Shipping"
tab, found in the "Special Pages" column. Instructions on filing the
request and paying the appropriate tax is contained on the application.
A consent to import is normally approved within 2 days of receiving the
form.
I hope this information helps, and feel free to pass this on to your
customers.
Sincerely,
Pam Laycock, Chief
Beer & Wine Section

Hello - my company, Escafeld Vineyards, is a small California wine
producer. We have a customer in Ohio who would like to order wine. I
understand that direct shipping to a consumer from out of state is not
allowed in Ohio.
I'd be grateful if you could give me information on selling our wine in
Ohio via state liquor control board operated stores, or other means, for
occasional orders such as this.
Thank you in advance.
