The 8th Annual Valley of the
World Wine and Food Festival
 Saturday January 28 was the
8th Annual Valley of the World Wine & Food Festival, held at
The Steinbeck Center in Salinas. Over 1200 guests came along to
sample the best of Monterey County's wine and cuisine. Steve and I
had a great time representing Escafeld and pouring our Merlot and the remnant of our 2002
Zinfandel--not to worry, our 2003 vintage will be available soon!
This year, the event hosted 38 wineries and 24 local restaurants,
as well as a port and cigar bar. A big thank you to everyone who
came along to taste our wines, we enjoyed meeting you and look
forward to another great event next year!
 Valentine's Day: Pure and
Simple Valentines
Day is quickly approaching, so be sure to plan your special evening
in advance. Simplicity is the key; a roaring fire, delicious food
and wine, a well chosen bouquet, and that special someone are all
the ingredients you need to make Valentines Day truly romantic this
year.
A simple, yet elegant, dinner such as grilled or broiled lamb
chops served with a
red wine reduction
sauce, steamed asparagus, a fresh salad and good
crusty bread will make a flavorful and stress free menu for two.
Pair your dish with a classic Merlot, such as Escafeld's award
winning 2002 Monterey County Merlot and you'll
have a match made in heaven. If you're feeling decadent, complete
your meal together by the fire with chocolate fondue, strawberries
and a glass of red wine.
